Barrilleaux Diaries

Ferdinand Barrilleaux was a storekeeper and postmaster in Lockport, La. during the 19th century. This collection consists of photocopies of his diaries recounting his personal life, business transactions, and experiences with Civil War strife. He originally wrote these diaries in French, but English translations are available.

This microfilm reel contains excerpts from the parish registers of Saint-Gabriel-d'Iberville Parish, Louisiana and Notre-Dame-du-Fort-Condé of Mobile, Alabama. Saint Gabriel's registers comprise baptism (1773-1774) and marriage records (1773-1859). The registers of Notre-Dame-du-Fort-Condé de la Mobile comprise both marraige and baptism records and date from 1704 to 1764.

This collection covers three linear feet and spans 1924-2010. It consists of store ledgers showing store sales and individual customer accounts. Most ledger entries were recorded in French with a few in English. The collection includes photographs of Constant Ignace Pitre and his wife Amy Lorraine, Resolution of Condolence from the Knights of Columbus pertaining to Constant Ignace’s death in 1952, and an interview on DVD with Constant “Bill” Pitre by his son, Billy Pitre, on May 29, 2010.
